There’s a pole out there—wooden, weathered, wired to the sky like it’s trying to hold the whole damn thing together. I call it the Conduit. Not because it’s fancy. Not because it’s new. But because it listens. It hums. It carries the weight of every whispered call, every late-night confession, every static-laced love song that never quite made it to the chorus.
You ever see one of those utility poles casting a shadow so long it feels like it’s reaching back in time? That’s what this one does. It stands in a field of blue and purple haze, like the sky’s trying to remember something. And the wires—those taut lines stretching across the top—they’re not just power lines. They’re lifelines. They’re the melody beneath the silence. The bridge between what we meant to say and what we actually said.
I play Wichita Lineman every Thursday at 4:17 PM, not because it’s scheduled, but because it’s sacred. That song gets it. The longing. The listening. The work. This pole? It’s the lineman’s ghost. Still out there. Still connected. Still waiting for the signal.
