Palm Springs

🌈 Palm Springs: A Manual for Gentle Rule-Breakers

In Palm Springs, Terry Hastings turns civic order into set dressing and municipal modernism into a sunlit stage for soft rebellion. These works are a visual uprising in SPF 50—where cardboard palm trees sway in imagined breezes, and the only thing more rigid than the gridlines is the city’s noise ordinance. The result? A queer mirage of color, control, and camp. Welcome to the fantasy. Wish you were here.

🖼️ The Work

These modern digital pieces center on the human form. I begin with photographs of my models—then cut them out in Photoshop, apply solid, vibrant color fields, and add details like nipples and genitals (because yes, bodies are allowed to be bodies). From there, I build a contemporary minimalist world for them to inhabit pools, palms, mountains, and the occasional architectural flex.

It’s Palm Springs, reimagined as a queer stage set. A place where the rules are decorative, the shadows are dramatic, and the bodies are fully present—unapologetic, composed, and just a little bit defiant

The minimalist Mid-Century inspired "Photo/Graphics" are titled, signed and numbered. The 12x18 works are a limited edition of 50 and the 8x12 works are an edition of 100. The 4x6 works are an open edition.
