In Epiphany, the gods do not appear—but their presence is felt in the rising bodies, the lifted limbs, and the ecstatic surrender of the dancers. This is a moment of transformation, not through divine intervention, but through collective rhythm and lunar grace.
Each figure began as a photograph of a friend—naked, vulnerable, and in motion. Captured mid-dance, their silhouettes were digitally reimagined into radiant forms, arranged in concentric circles around a central bonfire. Above them, a full moon watches as some figures begin to rise, lifted not by wings but by ritual.
This piece marks a turning point in Hastings’ mythology: where the dancers themselves become the myth. No gods descend. No masks intervene. The epiphany is embodied.
This stunning photo/graphic is a masterpiece created by renowned photographer Terry Hastings. Inspired by the cut outs of Henri Matisse, Terry starts with photosgraphs of his models in action, cuts them out in photoshop, turns them a solid color and scratches in a few key details. The piece is peaceful, solemn and rapturous. The power of music!
