This is one of Terry Hastings’ most involved and mythically charged works. Full Moon Drum Circle: Return of the Gods is a visual ritual staged under a desert moon, where celebration, memory, and divine presence converge.

Each figure in the scene began as a photograph of a friend—willing collaborators who danced, drummed, and shed layers both literal and symbolic to embody the spirit of communal joy. Their movements were captured, transformed, and reimagined into vibrant silhouettes that pulse with rhythm and reverence.

The gods, emerging from their volcanic lair, were constructed from craft sticks and hot glue—handmade masks worn by the models and later digitized into divine forms. Each god has a name, a power, and a role in the evolving mythology. At the center of this piece is Armore’, the rhinoceros guardian of passion, returning to the people in a moment of lunar ceremony.

This work is part of Hastings’ ongoing myth-making practice, where art becomes archive, and every print is a fragment of a living belief system.

This stunning photo/graphic is a masterpiece created by renowned photographer Terry Hastings. Inspired by the cut outs of Henri Matisse, Terry starts with photosgraphs of his models in action, cuts them out in photoshop, turns them a solid color and scratches in a few key details.  The piece  is playful and beautiful and full of joy.
