In the still heat of a summer afternoon, everything would stop—the birds, the wind, even the hum of the world seemed to hold its breath. Impending Storm recalls that moment from childhood when the sky darkened and the air thickened, beautiful and a little terrifying. You’d stand in the yard or watch from a screen door, waiting for the first break: a gust of wind, a streak of lightning, the long-awaited cool of rain.
Rendered in softened hues and restrained layers, this work captures not the storm itself, but the pause before it—the charged silence, the blurred horizon, the sense that something is about to shift. Part of the Midwest Memory series, it honors the way certain moments imprint themselves across a lifetime—not for what they were, but for how they felt.
