Centered in stillness, Jade Afternoon stages a tree in full canopy, its mirrored roots reaching into memory. The pale sun hovers behind, casting a soft glow over layered green mist. This is not a lean, it’s a pause in balance. The rock sits near the base, quiet and grounded, while the fence line marks distance without division. Afternoon is not climax; it’s reflection. A moment where growth is felt, not shown. The third in a temporal series, Jade Afternoon evokes calm without passivity, symmetry without stasis.
Roots reflect the sky
jade breath, sun behind still limbs.
Afternoon exhales.
While visiting the Como Park Conservatory in St. Paul, I photographed a series of bonsai trees. The quiet geometry and shifting light throughout the day sparked the concept for this series: a minimalist meditation on time, reflection, and stillness.
