“Well. Welcome to Main Street. The very heart of Shakopee. I was born five blocks west of here. I kissed my first crush near that water tower—before it was repainted. I gave five speeches under that steeple, each more rehearsed than the last.
You’ll notice the lines. They’re tight. Restrained. Like the zoning board used a ruler and a prayer. But if you squint, it’s not just houses and churches—it’s a memory grid. A choreography of expectation.
Look at the green near the base. That’s where the town held its parades. I waved from that corner twice. Once as Mayor. Once as… well. Just a man in a borrowed suit.
That cross? It’s not just architectural. It’s structural. Some say Hastings buried commentary here: about surveillance, absolution, or the weight of public persona. But I see a place trying to hold its breath and stand still. Like it wants to be remembered and forgotten at the same time.
I resigned before they could vote me out. But I never stopped loving this street. Even now, it feels like a confessional drawn in blueprints.”
