“Palm Springs (naked) Dance Festival” By Terry Hastings
If the Film Festival was a moonlit whisper, the Dance Festival is a full-throated scream—in glitter, sweat, and unapologetic groove. Terry Hastings has done it again, conjuring a celebration so vivid it practically pulses. The Palm Springs (naked) Dance Festival isn’t just a poster—it’s a manifesto for movement, liberation, and the kind of joy that only happens when clothes are optional and rhythm is mandatory.
The stage glows like a beacon, framed by palm trees that seem to sway in approval. Dancers leap, twist, and shimmer under yellow lights, their bodies rendered in bold, expressive strokes. Below them, the crowd is a kaleidoscope of color and motion—each figure caught mid-step, mid-spin, mid-ecstasy. It’s not just dancing; it’s ritual. It’s communion. It’s queer utopia with a beat.
Hastings understands that nudity here isn’t erotic—it’s elemental. The body becomes instrument, canvas, and audience all at once. There’s no shame, no spectacle—just the sacred act of moving together, unburdened and alive.

I left the imaginary venue barefoot, breathless, and baptized in bass. I’d give it five out of five sequined halos—if Marco believed in ratings. But he doesn’t. He believes in dancing until dawn.

Inspired by the cut outs of Henri Matisse, Terry starts with photosgraphs of his models in action, cuts them out in photoshop, turns them a solid color and scratches in a few key details. The piece is playful and fun!
