A body becomes a garden, painted in grayscale and crowned with vibrant vegetables—carrots, cauliflower, celery, beets, and Brussels sprouts arranged like offerings on a living altar. Salad Bar is part of Terry Hastings’ “I’m Hungry” series, where appetite meets anatomy in compositions that are equal parts absurd, elegant, and unapologetically queer.
This isn’t health food—it’s high drama. Hastings stages the body as both buffet and landscape, teasing the line between nourishment and nudity. Like Mapplethorpe’s floral provocations, Salad Bar uses organic form to evoke erotic tension, but here the punchline is edible. It’s a feast of color, texture, and smirky rebellion.
