Scene: Minneapolis City Hall lobby. Janitor on break, standing beside “Simpli-city,” mop leaning like a conspirator. Noon crowd drifts by. He speaks, mostly to the air, occasionally to anyone who slows down just enough to regret it.

**"Look at this thing. No, really look. You telling me that’s what passes for art now? My five-year-old’s Lego set got more nuance. At least he labels the tall ones ‘City Hall.’ This just looks like someone ironed out regret and taped it to the wall.

That one over there—squints at it like he’s solving a mystery. Brother, it’s rectangles. It’s shy rectangles. You don’t need a curator, you need glasses.

And don’t get me started on the description. 'A meditation on municipal identity'? Please. I meditate on my lunch break and I don’t expect applause.

You want real abstraction? Try interpreting the mayor’s last budget meeting. Now that’s a surrealist tragedy.

But hey—someone got paid, and I respect hustle. I just hope they used part of that grant to apologize to geometry."
