Here we are, in the preposterously early hours of the morning, observing a trio of palm trees who—by some unspoken agreement—have decided to greet the sun like it’s a long-lost friend.
They stand in formation. Not military, mind you. More like three retirees waiting for the bakery to open. One leans. One slouches. One pretends not to care. about his mild hangover.
They’ve seen things, these trees. Coyotes on scooters. Influencers with ring lights. A Boston Terrier in a visor. And yet, they remain.
As the sun rises, casting its golden glow across their fronds, we are reminded—not of nature’s majesty—but of the quiet absurdity of showing up. Every day. Without fail.
And now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to find a proper breakfast and question my life choices.
