A surrealist postcard from the edge of promise and illusion. Wish You Were Here riffs on the glossy optimism of 1950s housing ads—those sun-drenched visions of desert utopia where nothing yet exists. A red carpet leads to a “pool” printed on paper, a cardboard palm tree leans into a billboard of mountains that hides the real ones, and a lone figure stands in a swimsuit, duped by the dream. It’s all surface, all staging—a mirage of leisure sold before the first foundation is poured.
This piece is both satire and elegy: a wink at the absurdity of marketing paradise, and a nod to the strange beauty of believing in it anyway.
