Reflective Properties

Reflective Properties is my ongoing investigation into what happens when the world refuses to sit still and insists on showing up only as its own reflection. These pieces don’t offer the comfort of a horizon line or a neatly labeled “This Side Up.” Instead, they present reality the way the desert actually gives it to us — flipped, softened, scorched, and shimmering on the surface of a pool that knows more than it lets on.

In this work, the reflection becomes the main event. The “real” object is gone, and with it goes your sense of orientation. Saguaros hang from the sky. Palms rise from the deep end. Light behaves badly. The world appears upside down, downside up, or somewhere in between, depending on how long you stare at it. Beauty is still here — turquoise water, clean geometry, sun‑washed color — but it’s beauty with a wobble, beauty that asks a question.

Reflective Properties gives the viewer a choice: take home something pretty, or take home something that gently destabilizes your sense of what’s real. Either way, you’re taking home a version of the world that has already passed through a surface and come out changed.

Because in the desert, the reflection is often the most honest thing in the room.

Desert Pools

After working in monochromatic and bi-chromatic compositions, I set out to create a tri-chromatic compositional fugue—six pieces, each built from three dominant hues. The structure is quiet but deliberate: every color appears once at the bottom, once in the middle, skips a beat and then once at the top across the series. This embedded rhythm creates a visual cadence, a kind of chromatic choreography.

I'm combining my love of color, theatre, music, math and POOLS!
